About Sunshine Living

Hey guys!
My name is Sakara, and I run Sunshine Living from my studio space in Berkshire... aka, the spare room of my grandparent's house. Most days you will find me with my cup of tea nearby, a table full of mess and a floor full of thread.
My aim with Sunshine Living is to help you find those little rays of sunshine in the small things you wear, to help you feel as comfortable as you do when lounging around on holiday – all year round.
Sunshine Living was created for the person who’s trying to do better. They’re mindful of how they spend their time, live for comfort, and are constantly seeking out time in the sun. They appreciate high quality and comfort is key.
They’re not perfect, but they’re trying.
Sunshine Living specialises in handmade sustainable casual wear. It’s for the person overwhelmed by an endless stream of conflicting reports about where to buy truly sustainable, ethically made clothing, I’ve been there and understand it's confusing. So, I created for you, beautiful high-quality staples you can feel comfortable wearing and comfortable buying, knowing that no unethical or unsustainable practices are at play.
These are not-so-everyday staples and handmade-for-you pieces destined for your daily rotation. Neutral earthy tones, impossibly-soft textures and roomy ‘90s-inspired silhouettes are punctuated with our classic logo. These are clothes that feel like old friends from their very first outing.
The aim is to transcend trends and seasons so you can build a wardrobe that you’ll love forever.
Inspired by comfort, designed to be loved and handmade to order, I want these clothes to capture the joy of easy, sunshine living.
All the pieces are hand-cut, handmade and then hand-packaged by me in the spare room of my grandparent's house. Not sure they know what they've gotten themselves in for...

About me.
A few years ago, I graduated from the Arts University of Bournemouth, after specialising in sustainable/ ethical fashion and LECTRA pattern cutting. My heart and soul went into this degree, and I eventually showcased my graduate collection at GFW in London, where I was awarded runner-up for the Bonmarche "Fashion for all" and Vivienne Westwood Sustainable Design awards.
After running off to Asia and travelling around Bali, Thailand and Sri Lanka, I eventually dragged myself back to the UK to try and get my "dream" job in the fashion industry.
(... I must admit, I am 98% sure a piece of my heart was left in Indonesia – I’ll be back one day, watch this space!)
Spoiler ALERT, the "dream" fashion job never happened, but I know that this is what I was meant to do, and I wasn't going to settle for anything less... THUS, Sunshine Living was born!
Three facts about me that you didn't ask for, but I'm gonna give you anyway!
  • I fully believe I was born to live in a hot sunny country.
  • I'm an unashamed, crazy cat mum to my babies, Archie and Aura.
  • I think if I drink any more tea, I might turn into a Yorkshire tea bag.
